Playing Rules 2018



Teams shall comprise of  2, 3 or 4 registered players.


Players are only allowed to register and play for 1 team.


Teams must consult their Divisional Secretary to register additional players before they play.

Any team failing to do this will forfeit any points won when playing the unregistered player.



All teams are reminded that in joining the league they are making a commitment to complete all their fixtures in full by the arranged dates.


The home team will, if applicable, be responsible for meeting match expenses, comprising court fees and providing good quality balls. 


One or both players in a team may be substituted at the beginning of the second and or third set.


In the event of an injury occurring to a player, the player shall be entitled to one 3 minute time out. If that player is unable to complete the set of tennis. Any points won by that team up to the point of injury will stand.

The injured player maybe substituted at the beginning of the second and or third set. But if no substitution is available within the three minutes. the match will be forfeited to the opposition. Any player who concedes a set during a match will not be allowed to play in the remainder of the match.


If any team fails to turn up for a match without giving their opponents 24 hours notice the divisional secretary must be informed. The match will then be rearranged by the Divisional Secretary who will give three dates by which the match must be played. Any team failing to agree to one of these dates will be deducted 28 points.


All teams must have played each other once by the first week in July. Failure to do this will result in the Divisional Secretary giving three dates by which the match/matches must be played. Any team failing to agree to any of these dates this will be deducted 28 points.



Matches will not normally commence later than 6.45pm. In the event of a cancellation the fixture must be rearranged at the time of cancellation


Matches will consist of 3 sets of doubles, each set played to a winning conclusion. If the score reaches 5 all a tie break will decide the winner.


The following arrangements shall apply when a match cannot be played to completion because of adverse weather conditions.

First set incomplete – restart the match on a new date

First set complete, second set incomplete – play two remaining sets on a new date, second set to start from the score reached previously.

Two sets complete – play third set on a mutually agreed date.



In all divisions two points are scored for winning a set and one point for each game won. Four points will also be scored for winning the match (2 sets to 1 or 3 sets to love).


Results must be entered via the website by the home team and verified by the away team within seven days of the match being played.
